How it works
You tell us what you're planning. We pass it to one independent firm that works near you. They come and look, they quote you, and you decide. That's the whole thing.
We don't do the work. Glasgow Home Conversions is a free matching service run by one person. The firm is an independent business, and any contract is between you and them.
The four steps
You send an enquiry
Postcode first, then what you're planning, the type of home, a rough budget and when you'd like to start. Add up to three photos if you have them. It takes a couple of minutes.
We pass it to one local firm
This usually happens the same day. It goes to one firm that works in your area, and it isn't put on a list or sold to several companies.
They get in touch to arrange a visit
They'll normally be in touch within one working day. Nobody can price a loft properly without seeing it, so expect them to suggest a visit.
You decide
They'll tell you what's possible and what it would cost. Take your time, ask questions, and get it in writing. If it's not for you, say no. You don't owe anyone anything.
Why is this free?
Firms pay us a fee when we introduce them. You pay us nothing and there's no obligation. We're telling you this plainly because you ought to know how a free service pays its way.
What helps the firm
- A photo of the house from outside, and of the roof from the back if you can.
- A photo through the loft hatch. It shows whether the roof has traditional rafters or criss-cross trusses, which changes the price.
- A rough height from the top of the ceiling joists to the underside of the ridge, if you can safely measure it.
- Any old drawings, past warrants or a completion certificate for earlier work.
- Whether you're in a conservation area, if you know. The council can tell you.
Questions worth asking any firm
- Who draws the plans and does the structural calculations? Is that in your price?
- Who applies for the building warrant, and who deals with the council's inspections?
- Who submits the completion certificate at the end?
- What insurance do you hold? Can I see it?
- What's left out of the quote? Decorating, flooring and storage often are.
- Can I speak to someone whose loft you've converted, or see one you've finished?
- How do stage payments work, and what's the final payment tied to?
You can check a warrant position with the council's building standards team at any time. Each of our area pages links to the right one.
Common questions
Why is this free?
Firms pay us a fee when we introduce them. You pay us nothing and you're under no obligation to use them. The firm sets its own prices, and you deal with them directly.
Why only one firm?
A loft conversion is a long conversation, not a quick price. Most people would rather talk properly to one firm than field calls from five. If that firm can't help, or you'd like to try someone else, email us and we'll see if there's another who covers your area.
Should I get more than one quote?
On a job this size, it's sensible. Nothing stops you. Use us for one and find others yourself. It's your money and your house.
Do you check the firms?
We don't vet, insure or accredit anyone, and we won't pretend to. Our about page says how firms are chosen. Ask any firm about insurance, guarantees and past jobs, and ask to see one if you can.
What if I'm only at the planning stage?
Say so. Choose "Just researching" on the form, or pick "Drawings only" if you need plans first. A firm would rather know that from the start. Our drawings page explains what's involved.
What if I rent the house?
A firm needs to speak to whoever can approve the work, so we can't pass on an enquiry unless that's you. Here's what to do instead.
Tell us what you're planning
Free to use, no obligation, and your details go to one local firm, not a list.
We're a matching service, not a builder. The firm gets in touch, comes to see the house and quotes you directly. Whether you go ahead is up to you.
